Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande have released a statement confirming the fact they rejected a £17.6 million offer for Brazil midfielder Paulinho.
A statement by the club states Barcelona submitted the offer to be paid in installments which the Guangzhou rejected out of hand, despite expressing gratitute towards the La Liga side for holding their midfielder in ‘such high esteem’, as reported by Sport.
The statement read: “Paulinho, who has signed his renewal in January 2017, is an important player for our club in the long run. That is why we have given an official response to Barcelona. We reject the club’s offer for Paulinho, it is not in our plans to sell the player. However we want to express our gratitude to Barcelona for having Paulinho in such high esteem.”

The Brazil international has been playing for Guangzhou Evergrande since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2015.
Paulinho made 67 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 10 goals, but he has made more of an impact in China having established himself as a key player for Guangzhou Evergrande, who are managed by Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Having finished as runners-up in La Liga last season while watching on enviously as Real Madrid won the Champions League, Barcelona are determined to bolster their resources this summer in an attempt to perform significantly better next campaign.
