Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has been told he can leave the club this summer.
The 30-year-old joined the Ligue 1 giants last summer after an impressive season at Nice in the same division and was touted to make a similar impact at the Parc de Princes.
However the former Newcastle winger only made five league starts across the entire season, with his most recent competitive appearance coming a Coupe de France quarter-final tie back in April.
Following a meeting with the club’s sporting director Antero Henrique, Ben Arfa’s agent was told his client is free to look for a new club.
“PSG made us understand that Hatem is free to leave, but we made them understand he won’t just leave like that,” L’Equipe reported the player’s lawyer, Jean-Jacques Bertrand, as saying.

Hatem Ben Arfa was Nice’s top scorer in Ligue 1 during the 2015/2016 season.
The former Lyon and Marsielle midfielder has a year left on his current deal with PSG and is expected to be left out of the travelling party for the club’s pre-season tour of the US.
If Ben Arfa fails to secure a new club in the current transfer window, he will be able to agree a pre-contract with a new club in six months ahead of a free transfer next summer.
The 30-year-old left St James’ Park in 2015, polarising opinion among fans but a large section of the Newcastle support still hope he can return to the club for their Premier League challenge, according to the Chronicle.
