“I don’t give a damn” – Palermo owner Zamparini ready to ‘block the transfer market’

Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini says he will “block the transfer market and play the primavera” next season following allegations of false accounting.
The 76-year-old’s home, offices and Palermo’s headquarters were all raided by the Italian financial police on Friday morning over allegations of false accounting, embezzlement and money laundering.
Zamparini responded to the raids and accusations by claiming he no longer cares for the club and is willing to play the youth team in Serie B next season while making sure Palermo don’t sign any players in the summer transfer window.
“I’m one of the most honest people in Italian football,” the 76-year-old told broadcaster Trm (via Football Italia).
“Now I’m blocking the transfer market and I don’t give a damn about Palermo. I’ll play the Primavera and who we’ve got already.
“Today I had a conversation with an American entrepreneur over the phone.”
“I have the Guardia di Finanza at all my homes and Palermo’s headquarters because I didn’t sell the club to Baccaglini.
“False accounting? For the love of God, there’s absolutely nothing, I’ve been at Palermo for so many years and it’s all under control.”
Zamparini has been a controversial figure during his time as owner of the Sicilian club, having overseen 40 coaching changes since he brought Palermo in 2002.
The appointment of Diego Lopez in January 2017 was Zamparini’s 11th coaching change in two years but the Uruguayan couldn’t help them avoid relegation from Serie B, finishing 19th at the end of the season.
