Liverpool ‘confident of banking full £30m on Palace target Mamadou Sakho’

Mamadou Sakho remains a key target for Crystal Palace this transfer window, but Liverpool are holding off on any deal unless the full £30m asking price is matched.

Sakho, 27, spent the last four months of the 2016/17 season on loan at Palace after previously being forced to train with the reserves by Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp made made it clear before the start of the season that he was no longer part of Liverpool’s long-term plans.
According to the Liverpool Echo, although personal terms have been agreed between player and club, an agreement between both teams on the transfer fee is still way off as the Reds.
Liverpool, it is said, have received a ‘flurry of inquiries’ and so are optimistic their £30m valuation will be met, be that by Palace or another suitor.
Sakho managed eight appearances for Crystal Palace in the final months of the Premier League season before sustaining a knee injury which cut his campaign short.
Throughout those eight appearances, Sakho impressed and has since become the Eagles’ primary target for the summer having been shortlisted for their Player of the Season award.

Sakho managed only 8 appearances last season, averaging a player rating of 7.05.
Despite suggestions there has been plenty of interest, over the course of his Anfield exile Sakho and his agent have publicly played down several mooted options.
In a January interview with Canal football Club, Sakho stated that he would not play for Marseille amid transfer links to the big rivals of his former club, Paris Saint-Germain.
“I think Marseille have a very good team. Bafé (Gomis) and Pat (Evra) are friends of mine,” he said, before hinting at a desire to return to his boyhood club PSG, who in 2007 made him the youngest-ever captain of a Ligue 1 side aged just 17 years and eight months.
“But my answer to this might remind certain people about a song. When there is PSG, Sakho is with them.”
Roma are more recently linked. However, Sakho’s agent went on record to suggest a move would be unlikely.
“I’ve not had any contact with Roma. He’s a Liverpool player and I don’t think Roma have any chance [of signing him] at the moment,” Niakate Housseyni told LaRoma24.it.
As it stands, Sakho is training with the rehabilitation team at Melwood.
Both Liverpool and Sakho will be eager for an agreement as soon as possible so that preparations can get underway for the 2016/17 season.
