Lyon manager Bruno Genesio believes the club’s new signing Mariano Diaz can follow in the footsteps of Alexandre Lacazette.
Lacazette completed his £52 million move to Arsenal earlier in the week, leaving a void at the head of the Ligue 1 side’s attack.
Genesio and Lyon addressed this gap immediately however, bringing in Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid to bolster the club’s front line.
The French manager says he is satisfied with his attacking options following the arrival of the 23-year-old on a five year deal.
“There is a lot on Mariano. We think he can follow in the footsteps of Alex [Lacazette]. I am satisfied with what we have in offensive areas,” Genesio told reporters at a press conference.

Mariano Diaz scored one La Liga goal for Real Madrid this season
Mariano Diaz’s impressive form with Real Madrid Castilla last campaign, scoring 27 goals, alerted Europe to his potential with Lyon moving quickly to secure his services before agreeing the sale of Lacazette to Arsenal.
Lyon’s new no. 11 is the club’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Fernando Marcal, Bertrand Traore ad Ferland Mendy so far this window.
