Riccardo Montolivo will “surprise everyone” at Milan next season, says agent

Riccardo Montolivo‘s agent has claimed that the AC Milan captain will surprise everyone next season.
Montolivo was restricted to just nine Serie A appearances last campaign as he missed much of the season owing to knee ligament damage, but the 32-year-old is eager to play a major part for Vincenzo Montella’s team next campaign.
Giovanni Branchini told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Riccardo will come in handy for Montella.
“In recent years, more than the injuries, he’s paid the price for the failures of a dark period [in Milan’s history].
“He came after the departures of Ibra and Thiago Silva and, like everyone else, he was questioned.
“The fans aren’t rational in their thinking, they want results and entertainment.
“Imagine being a ‘regista’ [deep-lying playmaker] and having to adapt to being a defensive midfielder.
“I’m sure he’ll be a pleasant surprise for everyone, starting with his Coach.”
Montolivo has been at Milan since 2012, but has won just one trophy with the club, the Supercoppa Italiana in 2016.
The Italian is very effective at retaining possession, as demonstrated by the fact that he was successful with 86% of the passes that he attempted in Serie A last season.
Milan have been disappointing in recent seasons and last season was very frustrating for the club as they finished in sixth place in the league.
Montella’s side have, though, been heavily active in the summer transfer window, securing deals for Ricardo Rodriguez, Hakan Calhanoglu, Andre Silva, Mateo Musacchio and Andrea Conti, while Fabio Borini and Franck Kessie have arrived on loan.
