Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed his interest in Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.
The former Aston Villa’s time at the Etihad Stadium hasn’t quite gone as he would have expected. Injuries have prevented him from claiming a regular berth in the side and he made just two Premier League starts under Pep Guardiola last season.
With the Spaniard expected to bolster his squad heavily during the course of the summer, Delph is likely to be available for a loan deal and Hughes has revealed that talks between the Potters and the Citizens opened a fortnight ago.
“We’ve asked for an idea in terms of the possibility of doing something,” Hughes told the Sentinel.
“That’s been ongoing for a couple of weeks now and we just have to be patient. With loan deals it’s always the parent club that dictates who and when players go out.
“He’s one of a number of players he’s looking at. We speak to a lot of clubs and ask them about players’ situations and their feelings and plans for them moving forward into the new season.
“He is one of those players we’ve asked about.”

An impressive box-to-box midfielder on his day, Delph managed to find the back of the net once from seven Premier League appearances last season, while also recording an average pass accuracy of 93%.
Hughes has already made efforts to strengthen his midfield options by securing the signature of former Manchester United star Darren Fletcher on a free transfer from West Brom, while Geoff Cameron has been tied down to a new three-year contract.
